What is a Schoko Doner? It’s pure deliciousness that’s what. I have done much research to find that no English blogs have talked about this amazing dessert you find in Germany. That’s about to change! The world needs to be informed of what its missing.
A traditional meat filled Doner Kebob (picture to the side) is a very popular Turkish inspired meal in Germany. Most people however, don’t know about its dessert sibling. The outside is a sort of flat bread that’s a bit more cakey and fluffy but not to overwhelming. Then it is filled with layers and layers of different chocolates and finally topped off with some whipped cream. Sounds super simple right? Wrong!
I myself am not an extreme chocolate lover as most out there. I know, how can that even be possible? I still enjoy it, I’m just not obsessed. That being said, this dessert is TO DIE for! Europe has very many countries that have done the chocolate game right. So when you take several layers of already amazing chocolates and put them together, you create something that there isn’t even words to describe.
They start with several several large thick circular blocks of milk, white, and dark chocolate stacked on top of each other. Then they take a potato peeler like thing and start to thinly shave pieces of chocolate off. It creates this AMAZING mixture of shavings from all three chocolates. Then they put all of it inside the cake like flatbread and put whipped cream on top. It just makes such a good combination that isn’t overly sweet but extremely good.
I know everyone says when your in Germany or any part of Europe you’ve to get the Nutella filled crepes that are everywhere. You definitely do! This Schoko Doner however, is also something you cant miss out on either! Let me know if you guys have tried it or plan on it during your next visit and what you think!
